Stick to the day job, Sturgeon

-

SIR, – Shocked, horrified and utterly dejected by Nicola Sturgeon's referendum announcement.

There is no economic argument for Scotland leaving the UK – no one knows what the UK will look like after Brexit – so, beyond vanity, I cannot see any logical reason for her wishing to take the country to the polls again before we have at least a better idea of how the UK will look after Brexit.

Her declaration some time ago that “independence transcends everything" gave us a clear insight into where her priorities are and where they have always been. It also helps explain the current state of our schools, hospitals, trains and police force. I'd implore her to get on with the day job but it is doubtful if she ever even started it.
