Motorists need warning signs

-

SIR, – I was not surprised by the level of returns that have came about in the fines issued for violation of the bus lanes in Aberdeen city.

I have recently been unfortunate to have been fined twice for entering bus lanes – both of which were done in error as I had not actually recognised that this was a violation.

The reason that these are continually being violated is simple: they are not sign-posted with warnings that make drivers aware of the restrictions and you do not know you have actually done it until the fine comes through in the mail.

I fully agree that a rigorous review is done on why these numbers remain so high. A simple remedy would be to make drivers more aware by placing signage that makes this clear to drivers. I have no doubt that Aberdeen City Council knows this and refuses to accept it as the returns are strongly in their favour.
