Government ‘guilty of short-changing Scotland’ says McCaig

-

that SNP MPs will demand that the UK Government meets the ambition and funding put forward by the Scottish Government.

“This funding is vital to the successful development of our cities and regions, and the Tories must be held to account.” He added: “Now more than ever we need strong SNP voices in Westminster to stand up to the Tories and make sure Scotland gets the missing millions for our cities and regions.”

But a spokesman for the Conservatives said an “extra £350million” had been given to Scotland in the most recent budget.

He said: “The UK Government has rolled out City Deals to every part of Scotland including Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness.

“Progress is being made on deals for Stirling, the Tay Cities and Edinburgh.

“In this year’s budget, an extra £350million was provided to Scotland, while the North Sea oil and gas industry has benefited from £2.3billion worth of tax cuts in the last three years. The Conservative government is delivering for Scotland, while the SNP are obsessing over independence.

“If the SNP had their way, we would face massive cuts in public spending and crippling tax rises in order to tackle a gaping £14billion deficit.”
