Help to support ageing workers

-

Scotland’s leading charity for older people has set up a new team in Aberdeen to address the challenges of an ageing workforce.

Age Scotland’s Planning For Your Future workshops are aimed at older workers preparing to leave employment. Other workshops cover a range of issues from health to lifelong learning and age awareness.

Scotland's population is continuing to age, with a 50% increase in over 60s projected by 2033, and the highest increases in employment rates are among older age groups.

The north-east has seen particular issues around an ageing workforce in a number of sectors, from construction to health services.

Many organisations are seeking to put in place new policies such as phased retirement and flexible working to support the needs of older workers.

The challenges in the local energy industry have also seen a number of older workers change their career plans.

Age Scotland managing director Brian Sloan said: “Our training provides advice and information for employers in meeting the needs of an ageing workforce.”
