Prime minister deserves a break

SIR, – In my longish life I have never seen a prime minister so embattled as Theresa May and I feel truly sorry for her.

I believe that it is her sincere dedication to public service that is bolstering her, far removed from the power lust that so many ascribe.

In this latest tragedy she will never win, whatever she does.
