Young takes title again

Stonehaven’s Patrick north-east confined tennis tournament men’s singles title with a 6-4, 6-2 final victory against the host club’s number two seed Martin Harbord at Rubislaw, Aberdeen.

There was a surprise in the women’s singles final when Rubislaw’s Karen Merchant fought back from the loss of the opening set to defeat the holder and favourite Karen Crawford (Cults) 2-6, 6-4, (10-2).

Montrose youngster Louis Duthie Gray won the boys 16-and-under title with a 6-4, 6-1 final win against Angus Harrold (Rothiemurcus and Aviemore), while Kayla MitchellMehta (Aboyne) upset top seed Cyprus Adams (Cults) 6-4, 6-3 to lift the girls 16-and-under event.
