Bird-brained family suffer motorway breakdown
Six birds rescued from road
A mother duck and her ducklings found trapped on a motorway are recovering after being rescued by an animal welfare charity.
The Scottish SPCA were alerted to the mother duck – now named Daisy – on June 14 by a member of the public before receiving a further call about five ducklings also trapped on the central reservation of the M80 between Glasgow and Stirling.
The family were reunited at the charity’s national wildlife rescue centre in Fishcross, Clackmannanshire.
Centre manager Colin Seddon said: “Mother and ducklings are doing very well at present, with Daisy receiving medication for some minor injuries.
“We were delighted to be able to reunite mum with her babies and are grateful for the vigilant members of public who spotted them.
“Once Daisy has fully recovered, we will release her and her ducklings back into the wild.”
Scottish SPCA officials said anyone who discovers an injured or distressed wild animal can call its hotline on 03000 999 999.
