Sad loss of great man
The sudden death of north-east business leader Charles Ritchie after a short illness has shocked many, but he leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of commercial success and dedication to his community.
Mr Ritchie built the Score Group oil and gas giant after leaving school without formal qualifications at the age of 15.
He employed more than 1,700 staff globally and 800 in Peterhead alone. His commitment to apprentice training was immense.
The word “great” is often used carelessly these days, but he was described as a “formidable businessman” and a “titan” yesterday – words which seemed entirely appropriate given his remarkable achievements.
