Bianca Walkden became the first Briton to claim back-to-back world taekwondo championship titles with heavyweight victory in South Korea yesterday. The 25year-old Liverpool fighter beat American Jackie Galloway 14-4 at over-73kg, taking the top step on the podium after Olympic bronze in Rio last August.

Mahama Cho secured at least a bronze in the men’s heavyweight class by advancing to the over-87kg semi-finals, but there was disappointment for Lutalo Muhammad.

The 2016 Olympic silver medallist, who is on his comeback from knee surgery, was beaten 21-6 by Smaiyl Duisebay, of Kazakhstan, in the round of 32 in the under-87kg category.
