Mum to rescue in dryer blaze

-

A north-east mum has revealed how she and her children narrowly escaped a tumble dryer blaze which tore through their home.

Catrina Bannerman was woken by the smoke alarm at her house in St Peter Street, Peterhead, and leapt into action, pulling her son Logan, five, and daughter Sophie, two, to safety moments before their dryer burst into flames.

Their home was seriously damaged when the fire broke out at around 11.20pm. With husband Lee at work Mrs Bannerman raced through thick smoke to carry her children to safety.

The 28-year-old said: “I could see smoke coming from the kitchen, but I didn’t know at that stage it was coming from the tumble dryer. My first thought was to get the children out.

“I got them out through the back door and, about 30 seconds later, the tumble dryer burst into flames. I couldn’t believe it. If we had been in there just a little while longer, I dread to think what might have happened.”
