Military Tattoo exceptionally good
SIR, – Your Monday edition reported on the Highland Military Tattoo at Fort George and quoted the organiser as saying it was an excellent event.
As a first-time attendee, may I say how correct he was.
It was no pale shadow of Edinburgh. In its own way, and own environment, it surpassed Edinburgh.
With a strong emphasis on the RAF and contributions from local singers, musicians and dancers it was unbelievably good, both in terms of entertainment and value for money, culminating in a ridiculously good fireworks display.
Everyone from the Highlands and Moray, with its hugely important military heritage, plus local visitors and tourists should make this a number one ‘must do’ for their calendar for 2018.
Let us all gather round this exceptional event, and determine that we do not lose it for lack of support. In closing I must declare an interest.
My late uncle, Richard Stuart Milne, was a lieutenant in the 6th Battallion Seaforth Highlanders, stationed at Fort George in 1939. He perished in the rearguard at Dunkirk in 1940, trying to block the advance of the Germans and bravely defending his colleagues.
I never met him, but I have never felt closer to him than I did last Friday evening.
