Hydro and tidal energy time is now

SIR, – Great news that we are virtually self sufficient in electricity from wind turbines when the wind blows.

Now is the time for the government to call a halt to further wind developments and concentrate on hydro, tidal and geo-thermal schemes.

The potential for hydro power is enormous. Witness the volume of the River Ness and the longevity of our existing hydro-dams.

Only the government has the power to control, as in its fracking stance, so come on, let’s see some inspired action.

Finally, it would be fantastic and only right that the windfarm at Altnaharra is cancelled, for it is in a beautiful ‘wild land’ area. It would be like planting tatties on the centre court at Wimbledon.
