Davidson had his pick before deciding on Rothes switch

Attacker Scott Davidson turned down a host of clubs before agreeing a two-year deal with Rothes.

The 23-year-old centre forward, who scored 30 goals for Fort William last season, was on trial with Caley Thistle during the summer, but a broken bone in his foot put his dream of becoming a full-time footballer on hold.

Davidson said: “I could have joined quite a few other clubs, including the likes of Buckie Thistle, Brora Rangers and even SPFL club Elgin City but I decided joining Rothes would be the right move for me.

“The club is building a really good side and that’s the reason I decided that my immediate future lay at Mackessack Park, hopefully I will get the chance soon once I am over my recent foot injury.

“I’m always been quite friendly with Rothes manager Steven MacDonald who kept in touch with me after I left Fort William, and my dad also felt the Speysiders were the right fit for myself.

“I believe that there is something really exciting at Rothes, they have signed quality players such as Daniel Moore, Jaime Wilson and Dale Gillespie, and I want to be part of that journey, and hopefully I can help them kick on.

“I came off the bench in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Turriff United but I’m hoping to be on from the start and make my home debut in tomorrow night’s game against Nairn County as I need games to get my fitness up.”

Davidson was frustrated to suffer the injury during pre-season and said: “I fractured a metatarsal in my foot after an hour of my Caley Thistle debut in the pre-season friendly against Forres.

“I thought I was doing all right in the game but when I was preparing to shoot at goal and the sliding tackle came in from a Forres defender my foot hit the bottom of his boot and I know straight away something wasn’t right.

“As far as I am aware Caley Thistle manager John Robertson, who I spoke to last week, is going to monitor my progress. I was there for four months and they wanted to keep me on trial for another couple of months, but I’m not working at the moment and I just couldn’t afford to do that.”
