Inverness title parting shot
MacNamara, Freck aim to deliver league glory
Inverness Harriers managers Eoghan MacNamara and Sam Freck hope to lead their club to the Scottish Men’s League Second Division title before standing down from their posts after tomorrow’s final meeting of the season at Grangemouth.
The Highland club, relegated from the top tier 12 months ago, has a four-point leadonPitreavie AAC at the head of the table and looks well placed to secure promotion despite being below strength this weekend.
MacNamara said: “Our team isn’t particularly strong with rather a lot of injuries to important athletes. However, we are still strong in the throws and jumps and that should gain us a lot of points.
“Nick Stone, who recently joined us, is competing in the hammerand is likely to be one of our leading performers on the day. Nick took a break from the sport but came back this year and has improved at every competition.
“Dylan Morrison is also an athlete who continues to gain valuable points for us in the high jumpandtriplejumpandhe’llbe joined in these eventsbyStephen Mackenzie, who represented Scotland at under-16 level in this summer’s Celtic Games.
“My co-manager, SamFreck, is hoping tomake his return to racing after being plagued with injury for years.
“We are four league points ahead of Pitreavie, so we only need to finish in the top four on Saturday to secure the Second Division title.
“This will be the last match in which Sam and I will be managers after four years in charge. We are still looking for someone at the club to take over but hopefully someone does and they can continue the success of the team next season.
“We would like to thank our officials Alister Cameron, Mary PayneandKarinSmithwhohave been there for us at every single match since we re-entered the league four years ago. We wouldn’t be where we are without them.”
