Laird’s mission to win on road

-

Aberdeen Ladies have all but secured their status in the Scottish Women’s Premier League, now head coach Stefan Laird believes his side can climb the table in the final four games of the season.

AFC Ladies enjoyed a crucial 1- 0 win against bottom of the table Forfar Farmington on Sunday which moved them 10 points clear of their opponents with 12 points left to play for.

Forfar have won only two of their 17 matches this term while Laird’s side, who travel to leaders Glasgow City on Sunday, are only six points behind fourth-placed Spartans in a congested league.

He said: “We didn’t play very well against Forfar but we got the win we needed.

“There was a lot of pressure and that had an impact, but the most important thing was getting the three points.

“It is going to be very hard for Forfar now as we also have a vastly superior goal difference.

“But our focus is on moving up the table. Everybody can beat everybody in this league and we are closer to the top half of the league than the bottom spot. We should be looking up the table.”

Laird is well aware of the task when they take on a Glasgow City team with a five-point lead at the top of the table.

He added: “It will be tough. In the past Aberdeen have played these sort of games trying to keep the score down.

“But we are now going there trying to beat Glasgow City. We won’t park the bus with 11 players behind the ball.”
