Local councillor is in ‘blame mode’

-

SIR, – I refer to the report regarding the Aberdeen Town House repairs suffering further delays (P&J, October 18) and I'm afraid I cannot let Councillor Willie Young's outpourings go without comment. If my memory serves me correctly, the SNP ran the council between 2007 until 2012, with Labour in charge before and since. As wet or dry rot often takes time to flourish, it is therefore ingenuous to blame the previous SNP administration for something that probably existed before their term in office. As a result, it is quite possible that it was Labour's lack of a maintenance regime which caused the problem. It is grossly unfair to blame the previous administration. It ought to have been obvious from the outset that a building of this antiquity might well suffer from some form of either timber infestation or rot. Surely, an independent structural survey should have been carried out to determine the condition of the building and the cost of any works. No house-owner would proceed on having repairs carried out in the manner employed by this administration.

It would appear that Councillor Young is in permanent blame mode. Accusing the SNP of sniping from the sidelines is lamentable. Surely they are merely expressing legitimate concerns on the public's behalf.
