Thomas looking to tread triumphant path again

-

American Justin Thomas hopes to show why he has the right stuff to deliver another PGA Tour title at the CIMB Classic in Kuala Lumpur. Thomas made a breakthrough in the 2015 event, carding a 26-under-par total, which included a course-record 61 during the second round, to beat Adam Scott by one stroke. The Kentucky 23-year-old is determined to show his game can deliver again around the 7,005yd course. “This only being my third year as a professional, I have a lot of years ahead of me,” said Thomas, who is currently 34th in the world rankings and had seven top-10 PGA Tour finishes in 2016. “That is the crazy part about this game – I don’t really know what’s going to happen and I don’t know what lies ahead. I know what is meant to be is going to happen, but I feel like I have the power, I have the game to do some special things. “It is just amatter of if I put the work in and I do everything I need to do, but I feel like I’ve definitely been moving the right direction the last year. “Any time I can win in this sport is very huge and good for confidence, so I learned a lot of things from that week and can build a lot of positives off of this event last year.” World number six Scott heads a limited field of 78 players, while Patrick Reed and Ryan Moore, fresh from their triumphant Ryder Cup campaign, as well as Sergio Garcia and Vijay Singh, are all set to take part. Ian Poulter, meanwhile, is scheduled for a return to action having been out since May because of a foot injury.
