-

An air rage drunk who had to be tied up and strapped to a seat by cabin crewafter threatening to rape another passenger has been jailed for seven months.

Khalid Mir, who had been drinking bottles of vodka and Baileys, spat in the face of an air stewardess, swore at a cabin supervisor and hurled orange juice over a woman sitting in front of him.

Birmingham Crown Court heard Mir, 39, was eventually masked after headbutting a seat-back video screenonanEmirates jet. Prosecutor Philip Brunt told the court Mir was arrested by West Midlands Police after a seven-hour flight from Dubai touched down in Birmingham on November 17 last year.

Mr Brunt said of Mir: “He was the last to board the flight and the crew suspected he was drunk and had his own alcohol with him.

“Thirty minutes into the flight he started being abusive. He became very abusive to the woman in the seat infront ofhimandwas banging the video screen in front of him.”

Mr Brunt said Mir then swore at a cabin supervisor. “He was rambling, he was swearingandthe crewgave him a warning.”

Mir, who has more than 50 previous convictions, was then given a second warning from the captain, but responded by throwing a drink across the cabin. Themarried father went on to threaten to rape a female passenger before his hands and feet were bound with plastic cuffs, as some passengers, including children, were reduced to tears.

Mir pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to being drunk on an aircraft and failing to obey the lawful command of the jet’s pilot.
