Ramsay, Warren link up as Scots six shooters
Inaugural European Tour contest in London
Aberdeen’s Richie Ramsay and Glasgow’s Marc Warren will represent Scotland in the inaugural European Tour Golf Sixes event in May.
Press and Journal columnist Ramsay and Warren, who have been named 11th seeds, will join forces for the two-day event which will be staged at the Centurion Club in north London on May 6 and 7.
Ryder Cup players Chris Wood and Andy Sullivan will represent top seeds England, while Alexander Levy and Gregory Bourdy will represent France.
Wood is looking forward to seeing home supporters gather at the Centurion Club, Hemel Hempstead.
He said: “Andy and I are good mates and I think we make a good team. We’ve both had amazing experiences in the past representing Europe at theRyder Cup, and England at the World Cup of Golf.
“With the countries who are taking part, there could be some pretty intriguing rivalries thrown up and I’m sure we’ll see plenty of passion from the players and the supporters.
“It’s a fresh, newformat and I think that’s very welcome in golf right now. It should be an entertaining weekend and I’m interested to see how it all works with the innovations inside and outside the ropes.”
Sixteen nations will compete in a Champions League style format, with the countries split into groups of four. The teams will play three sixhole greensomes match play format games on Saturday, May 6, with the two leading nations progressing to the quarter-finals.
The quarter-finals, semifinals and final will be played the following day.
Three points will be given for a victory with one point given for a draw.
