all-female Scottish team and we can’t wait.

“My mother was a sidecar passenger about 20 years ago. I always wanted to give it a go as I was brought up with the sport.

“My driver Yvonne is exactly the same. She is the niece of former world sidecar champion Jock Taylor.

“The pair of us knew all about it growing up.

“I can’t remember a time in my life when I didn’t want to be a sidecar passenger.

“I was intending to get my racing licence when I was about 16 or 17 but I was really small and the doctor wouldn’t sign off the medical.

“My mum ended up as the passenger for the guy who I had discussed it with.

“From then on I always wanted to give it a go and now I am in a position where I can.”

Grant, who works for Aberdeenshire Council as an area supervisor for cleaning services, believes they can push the other teams in the championships all the way.

She said: “Sidecar racing is a real adrenalin rush. The pressure is on as Yvonne has always had road bikes but she has never driven a sidecar. Both of us have taken shots as passengers at fundraisers in the past but I have never done it in anger before. This will be our first go at it. Our aim is to go out there and enjoy it.

We want to finish races and finish the season.

“It is our first year but we also want to perform well. We have been around it all our lives, so there is a level of expectation and pressure.

“We are both very competitive. We want to do well but we know it is going to be a steep learning curve.”
