Bogus cops in vehicle thefts
Two men posing as police officers have been stealing cars in Glasgow and central Scotland.
Detectives are warning people to be on their guard after a number of incidents in which people who are trying to sell cars on Gumtree are contacted by interested buyers who then arrange to meet them.
At the time of the meeting, two men claiming to be plainclothed officers arrive and steal the car.
One recent incident happened on Wednesday at about 8.40pm at Glasgow Central Mosque in the Gorbals area of the city.
Detectives are also investigating a second incident in the south side of Glasgow on Thursday which is believed to be linked to the one at the mosque.
The first suspect is described
“Ensure any interested buyers are genuine”
as being aged in his mid to late-20s, 5ft 8in, of medium to stocky build, with a pale complexion and short dark brown hair. He was wearing G Star jeans and a dark waterproof jacket when last seen.
The second man is described as about 6ft, of slim build, with a pale complexion and short red hair, and he was wearing black Nike trousers.
Both men had police equipment including handcuffs and covert harnesses.
Detective Sergeant Mike Leyton, from Cathcart CID, said: “There have been a number of incidents of this nature reported to police and it is important that people are vigilant when selling vehicles or other items online.
“Please be on your guard and ensure any interested buyers are genuine before arranging to meet anyone.”
