Record high for Mountain Bike World Cup ticket sales

Organisers hail ‘must see event’ as purchases up 15% on last year

Ticket sales for a top event in Lochaber have already reached a record high – with two weeks still to go before the thrilling action begins.

The ever-popular UCI Fort William Mountain Bike World Cup takes place over the weekend of June 34.

And organisers are delighted that ticket sales are already up by 15% compared to last year.

A record crowd of around 22,000 fans descended on Fort William for last year’s event, which is the only UK leg of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup.

It won global recognition after scooping the Best Downhill World Cup award from the UCI, Union Cycliste Internationale.

With thousands of fans due to arrive over the weekend, event organisers Rare Management and Nevis Range are urging fans to buy their tickets early. The closing date for advanced event tickets with gondola access is Wednesday at 11pm. And due to unprecedented demand, spectators buying tickets on the day of the event will not be able to purchase gondola passes which transport spectators to the start line.

Mike Jardine, from Rare Management, said: “It’s fantastic that the Fort William Mountain Bike World Cup has grown in popularity as a must-see event for all the family on the UK sporting calendar. “We’ve got the two World Champions, Danny and Rachel, leading the home charge in Fort William this year, so the chance of British winners has never been better.

“This year will no doubt be another unforgettable mountain bike experience.”

The event, which is supported by EventScotland, part of VisitScotland’s Events Directorate, and Highland Council, is the second stage on the UCI World Cup Downhill calendar.

As well as catching the downhill action, spectators will be able to enjoy the team and expo area packed full of bikes and bike-wear, along with plenty of demonstrations and displays.
