Robertson Granite Carves its Name with Pride

-

At the turn of the 19th century there were around 90 granite firms in the Aberdeen area and now, 141 years after its founding, the last remaining granite manufacturer in the city is on the move. Robertson Granite is a family run business and one of the largest manufacturers of granite products in Great Britain. It is also one of the major retailers of granite memorials in the UK, with 20 Robertson Memorials outlets in Scotland and 10 in England. The directors of Robertson Granite decided in 2015 that it was time to relocate from the premises in Merkland Road East, Aberdeen (beside Pittodrie). The existing machinery, equipment and buildings needed a substantial upgrade, production efficiency needed to be improved and the surrounding area was fast becoming populated with residential buildings, making it more challenging for a business to operate. The site at Merkland Road East had been added to over a number of years to cope with the growing demands of the business but meant the workforce and machinery were spread over different parts of the site, making the operations more difficult to manage and more expensive to run. Hence the decision was made to build a new factory under one roof. Robertson Granite has now moved into a £5.8m purpose built factory, head office and sales facility at Silvertrees Drive, Westhill, Aberdeen. The state of the art premises has been equipped with the most modern machinery available and reaffirms Robertson Granite’s position as UK market leaders in the manufacture of high quality granite memorials. Stewart Gibson, the company’s retail director said, “We are very proud of our new facility which will enable us to improve efficiency, reduce costs and streamline our operations so that we can continue to provide a high quality product, a reliable service and an exceptionally good lead time, for decades to come”. Stewart went on to say “The move also gave us the opportunity to develop our brand to reflect our traditional craft, growth and ambitions for all three areas of our business – Robertson Granite (manufacturing and trade sales), Robertson Memorials (memorial retail sales) and Robertson Fireplaces (fireplace and stove shops at Montrose, Inverurie and Mid Stocket Road, Aberdeen). Robertson Granite is determined to hold onto its traditional values and continues to employ and train skilled craftsmen to mason, polish, carve and letter memorials using a combination of modern machinery and traditional hand methods in what remains a very labour intensive manufacturing process. The quality of workmanship and materials provided by Robertson Granite is the foundation of its success and its experienced craftsmen have won some of the highest awards. The company specialises in the manufacture of unique and individually styled memorials and an eclectic display of memorials and materials can be seen in their new showroom. The staff at Robertson Granite have many years of experience and the importance of customer care is evident from their sympathetic and helpful approach combined with their willingness to visit someone in their own home should they wish. Advice and assistance with inscriptions is also available and you can have total confidence that Robertson’s staff will provide you with a comprehensive and worry free service.

The office and showroom is open from 8am – 5pm Monday to Friday and 9.30 – 12.30 on Saturday. Alternatively you can call them on 01224 652000, email info@robertsonmemorials.co.uk or browse their website at www. robertsonmemorials.co.uk
