Can Scotland expect reward?

-

SIR, – I’d like to congratulate the Tories on their recent electoral success. Though I didn’t cast my vote in their favour, in my Banff and Buchan constituency they won.

I’m not quite sure how the Conservative Party did it, given that it was a Tory government that brought us into the EEC, signed us up to the CFP, brought us into the EU and is now going to take us out.

Quite how they managed to enlist the support of the local fishing community – given the harm inflicted on them by successive Tory administrations – is quite impressive.

As we all know Prime Minister Theresa May has just recently concluded our government’s agreement with the DUP.

It’s been a while since I studied maths but £1billion divided by 10 MPs equals £100million per constituency!

Given that we now have an additional 12 Tory MPs in Scotland then surely we will soon be rewarded for ticking the correct box too?

As we all know Banff and Buchan, along with great swathes of Aberdeenshire, has seen better times. In Peterhead we find ourselves increasingly isolated and further from good transport infrastructure than many comparable towns throughout the UK.

It’s fair to say the Conservative Party is enjoying renewed success in Scotland. But their fallow period, and all this “divisive talk of referenda", could probably have been avoided if we had known beforehand we would be rewarded to the tune of £100million per constituency for voting Conservative in the past.

So for those of us in this area who woke up on June 9 to a regime change, please take the time to write to your new MP, ask them when you can expect to receive the £100million for your constituency. I’m sure the answer will be swift and concise. David Birkett, managing director, Aberdeenshire
