Changes needed for electric cars

-

SIR, – So we are confronted with an electric revolution or perhaps a revelation.

Mr Donaldson says we are nervous or perhaps frightened of the change, like myself I think people are more concerned of the electric cars’ viability.

Our present petrol or diesel cars with an average tank capacity of 15 gallons and an average MPG of 45 miles will travel 675 miles without refuelling, Mr Donaldson may be happy with his 180 miles battery capacity, but not much use for those who make regular journeys between Inverness and London or London to Aberdeen.

Yes indeed there will have to be very big changes in the next 20 years. Brian Thomson, Grampian Crescent, Boat of Garten, Inverness-shire

No wonder AIA is bottom of the passenger satisfaction table where large numbers of air travellers continue to vote with their feet and drive down the A90 to leave from either Edinburgh or Glasgow Airports where a more reliable service is found.

Does he not understand what an absurdity this is? People enter politics usually to help others. Their very raison d’etre is based on a system of ethics from which it is impossible to exclude Christian principles. To establish government on ‘reason’ alone will bring arid utilitarianism at best and authoritarianism at worst.

Of course, there will be conflicts. Tim Farron, as an evangelical Christian, was unlikely to succeed in leading a party which actively promoted LGBTI rights.

But that doesn’t mean he should be silent in debates about Lib Dem policy. Debate is important within parties, not just between them.

Ramsay needs to go back to the drawing board on this one. Donald Thomson, Salisbury Terrace,
