First Aberdeen appearance proves bountiful for Gibbs

Edinburgh’s John Gibbs made his first appearance in the Aberdeen parkrun 5km and finished ahead of a field of 328 in a time of 17.30. Philip Neilson was 4sec behind while Joe Barton was a further 5sec adrift in third position.

Jenny Stanning (Rebel PT) set a personal best 20.19 to lead the way in the women’s division of the run while Mella Slattery (Aberdeen AAC) also achieved her fastest time of 21.05 in second position.

Veteran Marianne Lang (Grampian Orienteers) was third in 22.04. l Teenagers took the first two places in the Ellon parkrun 5km in which Fraserburg­h’s Max Abernethy was just 2sec outside his best time when finishing first in 18.09.

Aberdeen AAC’s Cameron Stone was second in 18.31 and Fraserburg­h’s Mark Brown finished third in 18.35. Another teenager, Lauren Duncan, was first woman in 24.07 and she was followed by Karla Davidson (Deveron Harriers), 25.36, and Laura Bennie, 25.53. l Robbie Paterson (Forres Harriers) secured his fastest time for the Elgin parkrun 5km course when recording 18.20 to lead home a field of 146.

An unregister­ed runner was second while there were also personal bests for the next two finishers, Kevin Reid (Moravian Orienteers), 19.55, and Jamie Cassidy, 20.30.

Aoife Ni Mhaoileoin was another runner to achieve a best time, clocking 23.11 when finishing first in the women’s run.

Karen Norvell (Moray Road Runners) was second in 23.53 and her club-mate Hannah Stephen took third in 24.21. l Jack Trevelyan (Highland Hill Runners) scooped top spot in the Inverness parkrun 5km, recording 17.06 while middle distance track specialist Stephen Mackay (Inverness Har- riers) was second in 17.58 and his young club-mate Euan Rollo grabbed a personal best 18.20 for third position.

There was also a personal best for Esther Smith who headed the women’s field in 21.44.

Louise Crilly (Garscube Harriers) was second in 22.43. Youngster Kirsten Burnett (Inverness Harriers) also set her quickest time of 22.43 for the Bught Park course when finishing third.
