McNab’s opener secures serene cup win

Golspie Sutherland booked their place in the Football Times Cup quarter-finals thanks to a 3-0 victory against first-round opponents Bunillidh Thistle at Couper Park.

Grant MacNab opened the scoring in the 42nd minute when he finished off a slick move.

Golspie doubled their advantage 50 seconds into the second half when Ally MacLeod followed up his own shot, which rebounded off the base of the post.

There was no way back for Bunillidh in the 70th minute when Cammy Sutherland scored with an effort from just outside the 18-yard box.

Thurso are the early leaders in the North Caledonian League after an emphatic 7-1 win against Inverness Athletic at Sir George’s Park.

Nigel MacKenzie led the way with a hat-trick, while Steven Morris bagged a brace.

Michael Petrie and Andrew MacKay got the other goals as the Vikings made it back-to-back victories.

Craig Stuart scored a consolatio­n goal for Athletic.

St Duthus made it two wins out of two with a 3-0 victory against Halkirk United at the Links.

Liam Rostock opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a low drive, and Ken Morrison doubled the lead early in the second period.

Rostock made sure of victory when he converted an Adam MacDonald cross.

Alness United upset the odds when they defeated champions Invergordo­n 3-2 at Dalmore Park.

Ryan Stewart, Gordon Finlayson and Ally Rose scored for United, while Niall Docherty and Neil MacDonald were on target for Invergordo­n.
