United showing six appeal

-

Formartine gave Lossie six of the best to climb three places in the table and occupy fourth spot.

Lossiemouth almost took an early lead when Ross Archibald set up James McLaren but his 10-yard drive was smothered by the diving Ewen Macdonald.

Formartine took the lead in the sixth minute when Graeme Rodger rifled a 20-yarder into the roof of the net, giving Cameron Farquhar in the Lossie goal no chance.

Four minutes later Lossie nearly levelled when Ryan Farquhar’s blistering 15-yard drive was brilliantly tipped on to the crossbar by Macdonald.

In the 16th minute Formartine doubled their advantage from the penalty spot, Archie Macphee sending Farquhar the wrong way after Scott Barbour had been felled by Aaron Hamilton in the box.

It was 3-0 in the 22nd minute when Liam Burnett burst into the box and steered the ball past the diving Farquhar from eight yards on the angle.

Seven minutes from the break Scott Barbour took full advantage of a terrible mix-up in the Lossie defence to stab the ball home from four yards out.

A minute from the break Max Berton made it 5-0 with a ferocious 25-yard drive into the top corner.

At the start of the second half Lossiemouth brought on experienced defender Tony Ross, who is celebrating his testimonial season, in place of Aaron Hamilton, to tighten up the visitors’ back-line.

Two minutes into the second period home hearts fluttered when the lights one of the six floodlight pylons went but we returned to full power on the hour.

Shortly after McLaren forced Macdonald to make a superb block as the visitors went in search of a consolation goal, but it was United who emphasised superiority in the 62nd minute with a close-range Archie Macphee header. With two minutes left substitute Scott Dunn grabbed a consolation goal.
