FOUR-YEAR DEAL: HOOPSMIDFIELDERMcGREGORINFORLONGHAULATPARKHEAD

Callum McGregor signed a new four-year deal with Celtic but can see himself staying at Parkhead for the rest of his career.

Aside from a loan spell at Notts County in 2013-13 the 24-year-old midfielder has been at the Glasgow club since was eight years old.

Ater penning a new contract which takes him up until 2021 a delighted McGregor admits he sees no reason why he would not want to stay beyond that.

“It is a great place to play,” said the former Hoops youth player, who has scored three goals this season.

“Coming off the back of last season (winning domestic treble), big Champions League games as well, everything seems to be going in the right direction for the club and it is fine for me to stay.

“I just wanted to sign it and continue to play and develop under the manager (Brendan Rodgers).

“He gave me the confidence to go and really kick on. I remember having a chat with him around Christmas. He said to me that it was my turn to show what I could do.”

McGregor admits his backto-back goals in consecutive wins against Old Firm rivals Rangers last April bolstered his confidence further.

“Those games were a turning point for me because it showed I can play in these big games,” he said.

“It was important for me to start this season well coming off the back of a big season, so I’m delighted that I’ve done that.

“For me now, it’s just more of the same.

“I’m delighted to get the contract signed and I just want to push on again.”
