Tory Remainers urged to act
SIR, – There comes a time in parliament when MPs must stand up for the national (UK) interest and not for just for their own or party interests.
Day by day it is becoming increasingly obvious, with an essentially leaderless government refusing to acknowledge the potentially disastrous consequences of the narrow result of the Brexit referendum, that such a time has arrived.
It is of the highest urgency that those in the Conservative Party who voted to remain in the EU, and who are in the majority both in the party and in government, have the courage to stand by their principles and declare they can no longer support a policy which is so clearly against the national interest.
There is absolutely no reason why the outcome of the Brexit referendum should be regarded as set in stone, bearing in mind that the result was obtained by exaggeration and deceit on the part of the Brexiteers. Surely there must be someone in the Conservative Party with enough Churchillian spirit to be able to stand up and lead the country along the path of sanity?
