SIR, – With regard to the recent correspond­ence on Craigellac­hie in Canada, may I add some further informatio­n?

The two gentlemen mentioned, George Stephen, of Dufftown and Donald Smith, of Forres, the founding fathers of the Canadian Pacific Railway, were in fact cousins and very proud members of Clan Grant.

It is widely held that they named the meeting place of the East and West Lines as Craigellac­hie from the Clan Grant motto “Stand Fast
