Green light slower street crossings
SIR, – Some weeks ago there was a very sensible suggestion in the P&J. The suggestion was that traffic lights’ sequence on Union Street should be realigned to give those less mobile than others a few seconds more time to cross the traffic-laden streets.
At the moment one has barely stepped off the pavement before the green man disappears and the cerebrally challenged start running their engines causing a degree of anxiety amongst the less nifty of the pedestrian classes.
Sadly we must accept that we will never again see the Aberdeen promenaders window shopping as they stroll down Union Street. However, it can at least be safer.
It should not take an act of parliament or a five-year discussion programme to make this happen.
