Council must know global benefits
SIR, – I cannot believe that Aberdeen council members have taken the decision to cancel the grant to Aberdeen International Youth Festival.
It would appear those members involved in the vote are totally ignorant of the festival and its benefits worldwide.
My husband was a member of the steering committee when the plans were made to welcome the youth orchestras in 1973.
We were very involved for many years and made lasting friendships with different ages, from the leaders of the groups and my children are still in touch with members of the orchestras.
We are not unique, many international friendships have been formed and Aberdeen is held in high esteem around the world.
How can any council cancel this grant, what does that say to visitors from overseas? E Barton, Golf Road, Aboyne
