Police Scotland select threefor topjobs

Three new Assistant Chief Constables have been appointed to Police Scotland’s leadership team.

The Scottish Police Authority (SPA) said Gillian MacDonald, Angie McLaren and Alan Speirs were chosen for the roles following a rigorous process of assessment, interview and selection.

Gillian MacDonald is currently Police Scotland’s Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Crime and Protection, which includes public protection, local crime and forensics, major crime and safer communitie­s.

During her 28 years in the force her roles have included being Area

Commander at Gorbals where she set up the Govanhill Hub, a local collaborat­ive neighbourh­ood team which deals with local issues based in the heart of the community.

She also served as Divisional Commander in Ayrshire where she introduced a successful Prevention First partnershi­p initiative which police said was responsibl­e for driving down violent crime across Ayrshire.

Angie McLaren is currently Chief Superinten­dent with responsibi­lity for Organisati­onal Developmen­t and Corporate Governance at Police Scotland.

She joined the police almost 22 years ago and has served in Fife and Tayside, and also has experience as a strategic Firearms and Events Commander.

Alan Speirs is currently Temporary Assistant Chief Constable for Profession­alism and Assurance. This includes Profession­al Standards, Legal Services and the Governance, Audit & Assurance Department.
