Cove Rangers striker Mitch Megginson knows that he and his team-mates will have to be at their best to get the better of Scottish Junior Cup holders Auchinleck Talbot in the second round of the Scottish Cup.

Highland League champions Cove, who reached the fifth round last year and faced Falkirk, will not be taking Auchinleck lightly, after they knocked out Wick Academy in the previous round.

Megginson said: “Any team which goes up to Harmsworth Park and comes away with a victory is going to be a tough opponent.

“I’ve never played against Auchinleck before but we know how tough a test it is going to be for ourselves.

“We will have to be at the top of our game to progress but we try to do that every game, no matter who we are playing.”

He continued: “A couple of years ago we went down to play Bonnyrigg Rose.

“We thought that it would be easier than it was and we ended up being beaten, so by no means will we be taking Auchinleck Talbot lightly.

“But because we are the home team, and we’re unbeaten in the league at home so far this season, we will be concentrating more on how we play.

“I think that if we do play to our strengths, and perform to the best of our abilities, I’m sure we have a very good chance of getting through the tie.”

Reflecting on his own form recently, the former Aberdeen, Dumbarton and Alloa Athletic forward added: “(Inverurie Locos striker) Neil Gauld is now on 24 goals for the season and he’s flying at the moment, so fair play to him.

“I’m five behind him on 19. It really would be nice to add to that tally in Saturday’s cup tie, but of course the main thing for us is to get the win and progress to the next round.”
