Tivoli makes urgent appeal for cash help
The Tivoli Theatre in Aberdeen has issued an urgent plea for support, saying it needs helps from its customers “now more than ever”.
It launched a £15,000 crowdfunding campaign in April to help cover its costs, but so far has generated less than 40% of this.
The venue is the oldest of its kind in the city, and makes most of its revenue from artists and performers hiring its stage – something which has been impossible during the pandemic.
After lying derelict for more than a decade, the building was taken over in 2009 and held its first new show in 2011.
But after years of hard work, sales manager Christina Camillo says the Covid-19 crisis has undone a lot of their progress.
“We have no resources or income just now – it’s all come to a halt,” she said.
“We don’t know when we are going to open again and with social distancing, it will probably be at reduced capacity.”
Miss Camillo added: “It’s a really challenging time for us. Before the lockdown we had built up the theatre to where we wanted to be.
“It took a long time to get there. But now it feels like we’re starting again from square one.
“The Tivoli is Aberdeen’s oldest theatre and it holds a special place in many people’s hearts.”
