Builder gives cash boost to children’s charity

-

A north-east housebuilder has donated £1,400 to help a local children’s charity.

Staff at Barratt Homes North Scotland voted to support AberNecessities with the grant.

AberNecessities supports babies and children from underprivileged families in the north-east and, in its first nine months, helped 530 children and families.

However, due to the pandemic, the charity has had to buy items it does not normally keep in stock, such as toilet roll.

Co-founder and chief operating officer of AberNecessities, Michelle Herd, said: “We’re lucky enough that our salaries and rent costs are covered, meaning the donation went directly towards buying a massive amount of essential items.

“With schools being shut, we’ve provided outdoor toys as well as arts and crafts packs.

“With an alarming increase in domestic violence, many mothers and children have had to leave their homes abruptly, so we have also provided emergency clothing and supplies wherever possible.”
