Views ‘vital’ to create fair supply chain

-

Milk producers are being asked to share their views on the government’s dairy contract reform consultation via a series of online meetings.

The consultation is regarded as a once-in-ageneration opportunity to create a fair supply chain for the industry after the Groceries Code Adjudicator found there was an uneven distribution of power in the supply chain.

The meetings, hosted by NFU Scotland (NFUS), will give producers an overview of the consultation and the issues it covers.

NFUS milk committee chairman Gary Mitchell said: “We see that there is a huge opportunity to change the structure of the dairy industry to make it more sustainable, progressive and improve the way farmers and processors work together for common goals but it is vital that we get the input from dairy farmers throughout the country.

“I would encourage every dairy farmer to sign up to one of the four meetings we have scheduled for the end of July as well as filling out the actual consultation.”

Details of the meetings are online at nfus.org.uk
