A step towards normality is in the stars

-

Well it looks like Boris has listened to me. He must read your life magazine on a Saturday because he has granted my wish and made an actual decision on face masks.

We have to start wearing them in England in a week’s time when we are in shops. Who knows why we have to wait until then and not start immediately? However, I think it’s really good news.

At least there is some clarity and hopefully it will save some lives and give some people a bit more confidence to get out and about.

We have certainly gained a little bit of confidence in our household in that respect.

We not only went to Gordon’s cousin’s garden for her birthday but we ventured into Lidl!

The family party was lovely but when some more guests arrived we decided we had been there long enough and headed home.

I found it all quite exhausting. Even though we were outside I’m just not used to people coming near me at all. I found myself edging backwards and hoping I didn’t seem a bit stand-offish!

We passed a very quiet looking Lidl on the way home and for some reason we decided to stop.

Being there was pretty intense if I’m honest. I felt like I was so busy avoiding people, even though the shop was nearly empty, that I ended up with a very odd basket of shopping. I realise you need to concentrate when adding to your basket!

Mind you, home delivery shopping isn’t always what you expect it to be. I’m not someone who has done much internet shopping previously and I’m having to learn to double check my orders. It’s very easy to end up with six jars of mustard instead of one! Oh well if we go back into lockdown my mustard supply will keep me going.

Our outings continued with a trip to the hospital for a checkup for Gordon and a dental appointment for me.

The hospital appointment was of course brilliantly efficient as the NHS has been on the ball with this the whole way through the crisis.

The dental appointment was a little bit more of a learning curve.

People were confused by a new one-way system and the hygienist took her mask off to write up my notes at the end then forgot to put it back on when she came back over to give me advice on flossing.

She was a minute or so into her chat when she put it back on in a panic. We are all learning though and we will make mistakes along the way.

I’m hoping to go back to singing teaching in person next week so I’ve ordered a visor as singing, unfortunately, is a high-risk activity due to the projection of the voice.

Getting used to having it on is going to be difficult but if it’s the way forward and a step back to normality I’m up for it.

In other news, isn’t it wonderful to see lovely Kate Garraway back on our screens on Good Morning Britain? Kate has shown incredible bravery during the past few months while she has dealt with her husband Derek being very seriously ill with coronavirus.

Kate has looked after her two children while being in lockdown but has also been dealing with the doctors during long days and nights of Derek’s worsening and changing condition.

He is now no longer in the induced coma he was put in to let his lungs rest but he still cannot communicate with them as he is in what Kate calls a minimum state of consciousness.

She was hoping to be able to visit him after four months apart this week. It really brings home what a terrible virus this is that someone can be so ill and their loved ones can’t even visit.

I’m glad Kate is back where she belongs with lovely Ben Shepherd. It will do her good to have a bit of normality I hope. The viewers have sent her so much love so I hope she feels the support of the nation as her ordeal continues.

One piece of news that has crept into our awareness this week is that there is a new star sign.

Well it’s not new but it wasn’t included before. Don’t ask me the details, I’m just discovering this like the rest of you. Apparently this moves everything around and so not only the people with the new sign, which is called Ophiuchus, are affected.

Some of the rest of us are then shunted into another sign as a result. I’ve always been a Leo and although I’m no great expert I did think I had many of the fiery Leo characteristics. But apparently I’m now a Cancer and I’m not sure what this entails.

If every day you pick up your horoscope and have a check to see how the day is going to go, you may now have a new sign to read.

Personally, I would recommend just reading them both and seeing which one you prefer!

Have a good week,

Yvie X
