Talyllyn/Corris join forces for ‘Tattoo’ 100th celebration
DETAILS of the joint Talyllyn Railway (TR) and Corris Railway (CR) celebrations to mark the centenary of Kerr, Stuart ‘Tattoo’ class 0-4-2ST No. 4 (4047/1921)
May) in 2021 have been confirmed.
No. 4 (the TR’s Edward Thomas) will visit Corris over May 8-9, joining the CR’s near-replica 0-4-2ST No. 7, completed in 2005.
No. 4 will haul a rake of re-created Corris carriages and vintage wagons and appear double-heading with No. 7.
Both No. 4 and No. 7 will then move to Tywyn at the beginning of June to appear at the Talyllyn Railway 2021 gala, which will also feature TR’s ex-Corris Railway Hughes 0-4-2ST
No.3 Sir Haydn.
Restoration of Talyllyn’s ex-Corris carriage No. 17 and ex-Corris brakevan should be complete in time for the event.
No.4 Edward Thomas was originally Corris No. 4, delivered new in early-June 1921.
Great Western Railway bought the Corris line in 1930 and the loco came into British Railway’s ownership on Nationalisation.
BR sold No. 4 (and No. 3) to the Talyllyn Railway in 1951 – each costing £25.
No. 4 entered TR service in 1952 following rebuilding at Hunslet’s works in Leeds, and was named Edward Thomas.
TR No. 4 previously returned to Corris in 1996 as part of its 75th anniversary celebrations, although only working demonstration trains, operation of CR passenger services not then having been approved.
CR No. 7 visited Talyllyn Railway in October 2011 and ex-Corris No. 3 Sir Haydn visited the revived Corris line, in 2003 accompanied by carriage No. 17.
