Scotland v Australia

June 7. 5.30pm, AJ Bell Stadium

Scotland U20s are as strong and prepared as ever but captain Scott Cummings refused to look past their first game against Australia on Tuesday.

The lock who made nine appearances for Glasgow this season is joined by the likes of fellow Warrior Zander Fagerson, Bath stand-off Adam Hastings and the Edinburgh duo of Blair Kinghorn and Jamie Ritchie, all of whom have tasted Pro12 or Premiership action.

After beating England, who are also in Pool B, during the Six Nations there are high expectations on the Scots to deliver in Manchester, but Cummings knows the Wallabies will be dangerous.

“It’s been great for us this season as there are four or five of us who have had some rugby at the top level,” said Cummings.

“And with the new academy system the U20s have been able to play and train together a lot more. We have regular sessions on Wednesdays and have got to know each other better and how we play.

“But we’re just taking it one game at a time and focusing purely on that Australia game. We’ll do lots of analysis and see what we can do to play well and what can give us an advantage.”

Australia also arrived in England high on confidence after their historic win over New Zealand last month and captain James Tuttle is looking for more success.

He said: “There’s a really good vibe in the side and there’s a sense of self-belief that we can win the trophy.

“Having the first win against New Zealand has really boosted the side’s confidence. We’re going into a World Cup where no Australian U20s side has won the thing but having that confidence will do the boys a world of good.”
