Yes-No interlude for Shaun

-

SHAUN Edwards could have been forgiven for not knowing whether he was coming or going in recent weeks, an observation which had nothing to do with the flood of tries shipped by Wales over their last five matches.

The Welsh Rugby Union had given their defence coach permission to broaden his horizons by doing some part-time work with Toulon.

Earlier this month, a WRU spokesman was quoted as saying that “Shaun will be with Toulon on a CPD,” the acronym standing for Career Professional Development.

Now the same WRU has done a volte face. “Shaun will not be working with Toulon,’’ they said on Friday. “The scope of the opportunity has changed and would represent an unacceptable compromise.’’

Why did they consider it acceptable in the first place?
