Late show from fabulous Mikalcius seals it for Quins

-

HARLEQUINS rounded off their pre-season program with a much-needed win over Glasgow at the Stoop yesterday.

Glasgow went in front thanks to a try from Simone Favaro before Ross Chisholm’s score got the home side back in it. Leonardo Sarto then edged the visitors into the lead but James Chisholm dotted down to have the score tied at 12-12 at the break.

In the second half Harlequins capitalised on Glasgow going down to 14 men when Mat Luamanu went over but Pat Macarthur’s try put his side back in the contest.

Quins fired back though and a try from Lithuanian wing sensation Jonas Mikalcius sealed the win 12 minutes from time.

Glasgow looked dangerous from the off and they had the first try of the game when new signing Favaro bundled over.

But Harlequins weren’t behind for long as from a set-piece Nick Evans scythed through the Glasgow defence before offloading to Chisholm who had the easy task of dotting down.

After Chisholm’s score Harlequins began to take control of the match. Just as it looked like Harlequins were comfortable, Sarto edged Glasgow back in front.

Chisholm drew Harlequins level with his first touch of the ball, three minutes from half-time.

Harlequins certainly had the better of theWarriors in the second half but the Scots showed heart for most of the ten minutes Favaro was in the bin.

But being down to 14 took its toll on Glasgow and 15 minutes into the second

half Harlequins regained the lead thanks to the impressive Luamanu.

Shortly after it was Quins who were reduced to 14 as Sam Twomey was handed a sentence in the sinbin for repeated offences and the pendulum swung again.

Glasgow’s Macarthur made their advantage in numbers count to level the score but Mikalcius scored a stunning try from the half-way line to clinch it.
