I’m backing new faces to ensure competition stays fierce

-

LAST season was fantastic, the best in the club’s history, and if we’re being honest it is going to take some beating.

But if you keep harking back to the past it can sometimes be an anchor that holds you back so it is important that we wipe the slate clean and start all over again.

We have brought in players who are well versed in the Championship, and hopefully there are a couple more to come.

As for the signings we’ve made, they are all damn good players in their own right who will put pressure on the existing squad. Lloyd Hayes, Robin Hislop and Sean Scanlon know what the Championship is all about, as does Jarrad Williams, from Yorkshire Carnegie.

We’ve brought in two new locks, Ed Falkingham who was a standout performer in National One with Hull Ionians and has previous experience of the Sydney club competition in Australia, and former Connacht and Ireland U20 international Dave Nolan.

Then there’s hooker Harry Allen who has played in the Premiership with London Irish and last season with London Welsh. We are also handing out trials to others during pre-season.

Augment that with some of the players who came through and learnt a lot from last season, players like props Will Griff John and Joe Sproston, and we’re confident that we can be up there challenging again this season.
