Blues on top with second-half romp

-

BEDFORD scored 35 unanswered point in the second half to eventually thump Pontypridd at Goldington Road yesterday.

The Blues only led 1712 at the interval after tries from Dean Adamson, Tom Farrell, George Edgson but pulled away in the second as Farrell, Tom James, Ben Adams, Tom Whiteley and Tom Griffths all went over.

It was Ponty who had the best start as lock Hemi Barnes found his way over the try line after some effective phase play.

But the hosts replied in style as the forwards laid the platform with a driving maul and when it went down the ball went wide to Adamson who hit a sublime line to break the defence and score.

Straight from the restart, Jordan Burns found a gap and he unleashed Farrell for a second try in quick succession.

Ponty tried to spark a reaction but they conceded a third try as Edgson emerged from another powerful drive.

Wales U20s hooker Liam Belcher reduced the gap to five points at the break with a try but that was as good as it got as Bedford found another gear in the second half and they wouldn’t be caught.

Farrell’s second from a sneaky Jake Sharp grubber through made it 24-12 while Tom James was on hand as they passed the 30-point mark.

With Ponty tiring, Bedford showed no mercy and the introduction of Saracens flier Tom Whiteley made for some entertaining actions.

First he launched a counter attack and sent Adam over before Whiteley himself linked up brilliantly with Elliot Clements-Hill for a superb try.

It made it 45-12 but the hosts weren’t done just yet and Griffiths completed the thrashing chasing a a kick-through.
