Ospreys will benefit from input of local legends

-

IT IS great to see something of a cultural shift going on at the Ospreys.

Previous chief executive Andrew Hore had his own ideas and brought in his own people to do jobs.

But now under Andrew Millward, a local man who played for the region, we are seeing an important change in direction.

Millward has brought in three other former players into the coaching and manageent staff this summer in Duncan Jones, Andrew Bishop and Richard Fussell.

Involving former players who know the history of the club, strengthens the links between the club and local area as well as forming a pathway at the club.

I started at Neath at the same time as Duncan, back in 1998, and he has become a huge part of the region both on and off the field.

He is a real peopleperson but he is just the person young players can look up to and listen to.

He speaks with authority about what it takes to reach and stay at the top level and to play for the Ospreys after a record 223 appearances.

The only player to come close to that is Bishop who was among the best defenders I played with.

It bodes well for the region.
