Wallabies fire early try salvo

- ■ By SAM JACKSON

From the first whistle the Aussies ripped into Argentina with an attacking fluidity they haven't demonstrated since RWC2015.

Having scored just three tries in the previous three Rugby Championship matches this season, they chalked up three in the first eleven minutes in Perth and the Pumas never fully recovered from that onslaught.

The first try, courtesy of Samu Kervi, came after just 43 seconds after Bernard Foley had run AUSTRALIA showed flashes of their best at Perth yesterday to record their second win in a week and climb to second place in the Rugby Championship before embarking on their travels to South Africa and then London for the return game against the Pumas next month. back a loose kick by Nicolas Sanchez who looked off colour for much of the first half. Quade Cooper pressed home the counter-attack and David Pocock also chipped in with a delicate pass to create the chance.

Cooper was again to the fore in Australia’s second try with a cracking inside pass to send Dane Haylettpetty sprinting for the line. The Pumas were all over the place and Sanchez was again at fault during Australia’s third try, being charged down by Will Genia who then showed good awareness to chase the ball and touchdown under the post.

It was looking grim at 21-0 down and the Pumas had to somehow get a foothold in the game. Gradually they started stringing the phases together but Australia's defence was both strong and cynical, conceding a torrent of penalties.

Sanchez recovered his poise a little with two penalties before halftime and straight after the break launching a slick attack from a Pumas scrum and putting Tuculet into space, a move which resulted in a startling try for the Pumas by Cordero.

At 21-13 there was just the hint of a hint of a famous comeback but Sean McMahon, on for Pocock, added huge power to the Aussies running game.

It was a big bust from the young flanker which created a second try for Genia and then another sharp inside ball from Cooper sent Hooper scampering over for a fifth.

Argentina kept plugging away and were rewarded with a try from Isa from a rolling maul when Australia were down to 14 men after Cooper had been yellow carded for a late no arms challenge on Sanchez.
