Silver’s money for Lucs at the death

- ■ By JOE BRIGLY

LOUIS Silver kicked the winning penalty as Luctonians completed a second-half turnaround to pick up their second away victory of the season.

The scrum-half had opened the scoring with two penalties but a brilliant six-minute period just before the break from Leicester Lions saw Devon Constant and Samuel Benjamin race over.

However Luctonians shut out their hosts for the other 75 minutes as, trailing 14-6 at the start of the second half, they got back on track through a Charlie Grimes try before Silver sealed the win.

The Lions – who had been the beneficiaries of two tight wins against Tynedale and near-neighbours South Leicester to open up the season – were sluggish out of the blocks.

Silver started the scoring with a penalty in the ninth minute and after a backand-forth period, the No.9 struck again to build a sixpoint gap for Luctonians.

But the game was completely turned on its head as Constant first caught the visitors cold in the 34th minute – and moments later, Benjamin inflicted the same damage.

Fly-half Jon Boden converted both to leave the Lucs with some thinking to do at half-time.

Five minutes of the restart, Luctonians scored through winger Grimes and Silver’s conversion cut the deficit to a point.

There was no further score until Silver’s 74thminute intervention won the day.
