Pitmen falter as Village complete revenge

SWALEC Division One round-up

- By ROB COLE

REVENGE was sweet for table-topping Rhydyfelin as they ran in six tries in a 42-5 home win over Penallta in Division 1 East. Both teams went into the game unbeaten and Penallta may have completed a hat-trick over Rhydyfelin last season, but they were put firmly in their place.

Wing Jordan Rees scored two of the home ties and full-back Dai Gratton bagged the bonus-point try in the second half as they built on an 18-5 interval lead. Luke Rees and backrower Kyle Perry were also among the scorers.

Former Dragons and Wales lock Andrew Coombs is cutting his coaching teeth at former club Nelson and they made it three wins out of three with a comfortable 43-15 home win over Risca to remain near the top.

The other unbeaten side, Ynysybwl, went on a try rampage against Brynmawr.

Dion McIntosh got the first of 11 tries for the ‘Bwl and ended the game with 25 points. The home side led 14-7 at the break before adding nine in the second half from Joe Williams (2), Aled Price (2), Dale Stuckey (2), Corey James, Alex Taylor and Jon Gough.

It was a day of big scores in Division 1 North as reigning champions

Pwllheli ran in 16 tries in a 100-0 win over COBRA – outside-half John Pugh scored four and scrum-half Nick Butterworth kicked ten conversions – and last season’s runners-up, Nant

Conwy, won 99-6 at Abergele.

Unbeaten Bala had fullback Rhyddian James to thank for their 51-0 win over Ruthin. He scored three of the hosts’ six tries, added five conversions and kicked a penalty for a match haul of 31 points.

In Division 1 West, top two Llanelli Wanderers and Kidwelly maintained their winning ways.

The Wanderers came through a tough test at

Aberystwyth 17-12, while Kidwelly triumphed 32-23 at Waunarlwydd.
