Ton up for Danny but no happy century

SWALEC Championship round-up

- By MATT LLOYD

DANNY Davies celebrated his 100th appearance for

Dunvant with two first half-tries but that was still not enough to engineer a win over Skewen.

Dunvant also had wing Adam Williams-Parry back in the team and his three second-half penalties looked to have steered the hosts home.

But Skewen’s Matthew Billet crossed in the first half before the boot of scrum-half Anthony Buselli proved decisive with 14 points, including a late penalty to snatch a 24-23 win at Broadacre.

Cardiff Met held onto their unbeaten start to the season but left it late to get the better of city rivals Glamorgan Wanderers.

The visitors made the short trip to Cyncoed and looked to have secured a first win since winning promotion to the Championship thanks to centre Declan Williams’ breakaway try.

That was until the Students mustered a final play and drove over from a lineout in the very last minute to clinch a narrow 14-13 win and move to third place in the table.

Meanwhile, Tata Steel held onto top spot with an emphatic 57-10 victory over Glyneath. Pontypool remain hot on their heels thanks to a stunning one-man demolition of Newbridge – hooker Alex Watkins scored five tries in a comfortable 50-17 victory at Pontypool Park.

Newbridge took the lead through the boot of Simon Veale but that was before the Pontypool pack, under the guidance of former Wales and Ospreys fly-half Matthew Jones, took over.

Nathan Brooks, Marc Thorley and Josh Hayward also crossed for Pooler while Kieran Meak and Jones added five conversions.

Bedlinog claimed their first win of the season with a 22-17 success over

Beddau and Narberth are fourth in the table thanks to a 23-13 win at Newcastle Emlyn.
